Noh is a famous form of musical
dance-drama that has been performed in Japan for about 600 years. The actors
often wear masks and sometimes dance while performing. A play has a number of
actors, with one leading character (shite) and one supporting character (waki).
A chorus (jiutai) chants the vocal parts and an ensemble (hayashi-kata)
provides the musical accompaniment.
This Noh play tells the story of
Kurenai Tennyo, the plum tree spirit, that appears in last volumes of Glass
mask manga.
Glass Mask is the first manga
that is adapted into a Noh play, even if it's just a part of the story it's an
important event in manga history. Also it's a new Noh play in other aspects,
such as the apparition of a woman (it's very rare that a woman appears in them).
That woman is Kaneko Iwasaki who recites the prologue.
Shinji Ueda, director of
Takarazuka, made the script, based on Miuchi's
original story.
