AUTHOR

Suzue Miuchi was born in Nishinomiya in 1951 and  grew up in Osaka.

When she was a little girl manga was thought to be a bad influence for children. Miuchi frequented a manga hire shop at the age of 10 and when her parents found it out they forbide her to read manga anymore. Then she started drawing her own stories. She already had lots of fans before making her debut.

When she started highschool she couldn't keep drawing manga and studying at the same time so she made a deal with her mother: if she couldn't make her debut as a mangaka she would keep studying and then find a job. In exchange her mother would let her draw that year. Miuchi made her debut with a brief story called "Yama no tsuki to kodanuki to" published by Besatsu Margaret, one of the best shoujo magazines in 1967.

In 1968-69 she drew several brief stories published by Margaret.

In the 70's she produced several titles,  becoming one of the most popular mangakas. She wrote and drew several horror and adventures stories these years. In 1975 she started working in her master piece, Garasu no Kamen, her longest work with 42 volumes so far and still open. Hana to Yume started the publication of this manga in 1976. She focused on this work from the late 70's to middles 80's so her production of short stories decreased.

In 1982 she won the Kodansha award.

In the late 80's and 90's she worked on her manga Amaterasu serialized by Asuka leaving Garasu no Kamen a bit aside. Only a few volumes were published these years.

In 1995 she won the Japanese Manga Association award.

These years her manga production decreased. Some Garasu no Kamen fans even believed she was dead. She even created her own religion.

In 2004 volume 42 of Garasu no Kamen was published and Miuchi announced she will finish this manga soon with a happy ending. (^^).

Here you have some cute caricatures of Miuchi found in the author's notes at the end of some volumes of Garasu no Kamen.

Here you have a list of Suzue Miuchi's works with samples of the covers and a brief summary when possible. Some of the titles has more than a cover, since they were published some years later in bunkoban format with more realistic looking covers and the stories compilated in each volume were changed too.

We got the info mostly from Japanese sites, so please don't steal. It was hard to translate all that. ^^;; Thanks to Ai-sei's Glass Mask site for the publication list info.

If you have some info about any of the manga listed here or want to make some correction, feel free to contact us.

The story of Jeanne d'Arc, the maid of Orleans adding some original characters and events with violence and black magic.  Jeanne d'Arc was a 17 year old peasant girl who was totally unschooled in the strategies of war. Devoutly religious, she had seen visions and heard heavenly voices that told her to go to the dauphin, lead his troops to victory, free France of her enemies and see him crowned king in the great cathedral at Rheims. She was opposed by officials and she was forced to travel across France through enemy territory but so great was her consecration that it enabled her to reach the dauphin, to win belief in her mission, and to ride in shining armor beneath the golden lilied banner as the leader of the armies of France. The author introduces two original characters in the story, Pierre, a young shepherd who loves Jeanne since they were children and William, an english spy who Jeanne falls in love with.
