PURPLE ROSE MEANING

All flowers have a meaning. Attributing flowers with hidden meanings and using them to express feelings is an ancient tradition that experienced a boom in the victorian era. The color and number of flowers presented also alters the meaning of the same type of flower.

Purple roses primarily stand for enchantment. The giver of the purple rose seeks to convey that he or she has fallen in love with the recipient at first sight or a deep impression is created. A deep magnetism and charm that makes the recipient almost rresistible is what the purple rose seeks to convey.

The very first meeting has totally enticed the sender of these flowers, who simply cannot resist the object of his desire. It has an almost magical effect.

(We can see clearly that Masumi was deep impressed with Maya since the first time he saw her on stage, she truly charmed him ^_~)

There is also an undertone of rigorous control, or a need to proceed cautiously and slowly. (hmm, too cautious and slow! And definitely too much control, Masumi! Hurry up and confess your love for Maya!)

The purple rose has other meanings. Opulence, glory and majesty are some other interpretations given to the purple rose since purple is a color that represents elegance and grandeur. (He admires her so much that wants to give her a present worth of a queen XD)

Purple roses, in their origins, are the result of trying to create blue roses. Blue roses don't exist in nature so if you try to alter the rose genoma to make it look blue it tends to pink, so the failed product is a purple rose. (This is explained in the anime too. When Masumi hears Purple roses are a failure he identifies himself with them. I think maybe he feels like one: beautiful, elegant and important outside but a failure anyway, since he cannot be happy)

A couple of true purple roses are Cardinal de Richelieu and Veilchenblau.

And talking about purple roses, we noticed that there is a Theater Company in USA  called The Purple Rose. We thought it was interesting since Purple roses and theater are so united in Glass Mask fan' minds ^^ It has nothing to do with the meaning of the flowers but you can visit the site if you are curious by cliking the logo to the left.
